It is composed mostly of hydrogen and helium, with trace amounts of other elements. Stars emit energy and light through the process of nuclear fusion, where hydrogen atoms combine to form helium, releasing vast amounts of energy in the process. Formation of a Star : Stars are born from the gravitational collapse of dense molecular clouds in space. As the cloud collapses, it heats up, and when the temperature and pressure at its core reach a critical point, nuclear fusion begins, initiating the star's life.
