What is a Star?

A star is a luminous sphere of plasma held together by its own gravity. It is composed mostly of hydrogen and helium, with trace amounts of other elements. Stars emit energy and light through the process of nuclear fusion, where hydrogen atoms combine to form helium, releasing vast amounts of energy in the process.

Formation of a Star :

Stars are born from the gravitational collapse of dense molecular clouds in space. As the cloud collapses, it heats up, and when the temperature and pressure at its core reach a critical point, nuclear fusion begins, initiating the star's life. The energy produced by fusion counteracts the inward pull of gravity, creating a stable equilibrium known as hydrostatic equilibrium. 

Some of the types of Stars in the Universe :

Red Dwarf: 

These are small, cool, and dim stars with a reddish hue. They are the most common type of star in the universe.

Yellow Dwarf (G-type main sequence star): 

Our Sun is a yellow dwarf. They are medium-sized stars that fuse hydrogen into helium in their cores.

Blue Giant: 

These are massive and hot stars that emit a blue-white light. They have short lifespans and often end in supernova explosions.

Red Giant: 

These stars are evolved and have exhausted their core hydrogen. They expand and become cooler, turning reddish in color.

Supergiant: 

These are extremely massive stars that are much larger and brighter than the Sun. They have short lifespans and can end in spectacular supernova events.

White Dwarf: 

These are the remnants of medium-sized stars after they have exhausted their nuclear fuel. They are hot and dense, but relatively small in size.

Neutron Star: 

These incredibly dense stars are formed from the remnants of massive stars after a supernova explosion. They are composed mostly of tightly packed neutrons.

Red Supergiant: 

These are evolved, massive stars in the later stages of their lives. They are much larger and cooler than regular red giants.

T Tauri Star: 

These are young, pre-main sequence stars that are still in the process of contracting and heating up. They are often surrounded by dusty disks.

Wolf-Rayet Star: 

These massive stars are very hot and have strong stellar winds. They have unique spectra characterized by broad emission lines.
